“Cancer isn’t a journey just for the individual that has cancer, but it’s the cancer journey for everybody around that person, from the spouses to children, parents, grandparents… I started to open up and it gave my employer the opportunity to provide the resources and support that they didn’t know I needed because I didn’t talk about it.”
Megan, Cancer Caregivers Program participant
“The symptom tracking really helped my oncologist, particularly in one instance where I had an infection. With a cancer diagnosis often your infection indicators will go through the roof which can either be prompted by the cancer itself or the treatment. Through the symptoms I was tracking and able to report, my oncologist identified that I actually did have another infection, at which point they were able to put me on antibiotics and that was dealt with. It meant that I wasn’t battling an infection at the same time as battling cancer.”
Marie, Cancer Coach Program participant
“…the program gave me tools to help me to deal with the stress of everything that I was dealing with, not only with my cancer, but with my overall health.”
Steven, Cancer Coach Program participant
“The Osara Health app was a valuable resource for me.
It was things like documenting symptoms. There was information on if I wasn’t sleeping. Some ways of actually trying to settle yourself down and knowing that (Osara Health is) there gives me a lot of comfort.”
Rohan, Cancer Coach Program participant
“The coach mentoring we received allowed us to ask those questions that we wanted to ask, in an open, neutral environment without bias or without anger. It’s given us a holistic understanding of what is happening in our lives in terms of where we are at now.”
Vaughan, Cancer Coach Program participant
“We engaged with Osara Health for giving our cancer patients more tools in their toolbox… We are seeing patients have much better mental health, better resilience, better self-care, have better health literacy.”
Natasha Tunney, Clinical Services Operational Manager, CALHN
“It helped me return to work, and feel confident about returning to work. I found information in there… that have been really relevant to my diagnosis and the way I’ve got through it. So I would recommend give it a go.”
Andy, Cancer Coach Program participant
“The program flows through all aspects of your life. At work, it’s allowed me to be able to talk more openly about my situation and my communication has improved when asking for help.”
Brian, Cancer Caregivers Program participant
“I felt I was a partner in my treatment… The reassurance the module gave me and particularly the app with information about exercise and diet. I didn’t realize how important particularly exercise was.”
Michelle, Cancer Coach Program participant
“The feedback we get from [employees] is that they really value what we offer. They think it’s a game changer in coming to work for an organization like Lendlease.”
Jane Gardner, Head of health and wellbeing strategy, Lendlease
“I found out about the program through my salary continuous insurer… the program actually helped me return to work.”
Nikki, Cancer Coach Program participant
“The caregivers program gave me that advice to make sure I kept exercising regularly and eating well. I still wanted to stay at work, it’s something I love doing and this program allowed me to stay at work and to still function fully.”
Rob, Cancer Caregiver Program participant
“To have someone to chat to about my family and things that were happening, it actually helped psychologically.”

I’ve adopted practical tips regarding a positive attitude to exercise that would help me be more proactive to achieve goals. I turned 59 and decided I would exercise everyday of the year with small easy to manage tasks. I would do more dancing and get more walks in.
Nadine sent me links to meditation apps and practical ideas to improve my health and wellbeing. The program helped me keep connected to my doctors to ensure my results are within the healthy markers. We also discussed work and how to increase my desire to find happiness in my current work.

My experience with the program was very positive. I was able to open up to friends and family in a way that I wasn’t able to beforehand. I felt stronger both physically and mentally after completing the modules and researching the links provided by my health coach Linda. I learnt a little about my relationship with my partner. I am promoting the cause of prostate cancer in my club, I am attending support groups and I have made changes to my diet, sleeping routines, mindset and I am now practicing more active meditation. I count calories and seek better options to eat daily. I set aside time each day to practice meditation.

Both my coach’s approach and the program content was pitched at the right level, with enough flexibility to hone in on the topics most interesting to me. Even though I did a lot of research and reading myself on how to best manage the treatment experience, I can highly recommend participating in the program.

The biggest value I got from the program was my 1:1 sessions with my coach. They were was safe space for me to discuss my feelings and talk about my mums progression through her cancer journey. Having someone on the other end of the phone, who actually got what I was going through made me feel well supported.

What I encountered from the sessions with my Health Coach was beyond what I ever expected. Not only did I receive the strategies I was seeking, I also received affirmation and acknowledgement that all the thoughts running through my head were normal for a carer. It has provided an ability for me to structure my days to allow me to continue to invest my energy into my professional life as required while still ensuring home life ticks along.

My Health Coach could certainly help with a lot of the issues surrounding my illness and dealing with it including side affects, fitness and nutrition, it all adds up and helps your mental stability and in turn your health. I would highly recommend anyone in a similar situation to take full use if possible of their services.

I appreciated the breadth of topics touched on throughout the program while, at the same time, the comparatively small time commitment on my behalf – it didn’t feel like “yet another task” to complete, but was very manageable.

I felt like I had a better understanding of how to gauge what my physical and mental health could tolerate and how to move forward during such a period of uncertainty in my life. Since undertaking health coaching with Patrick, I have incorporated more exercise into my days, as well as more meditation and mindfulness. I have become more aware of what my body and mind are telling me and I am trying harder to advocate for myself.

I came into the program feeling lost and unsure of how to cope with the situation. During my time on the program, I was able to explore various topics in relation to a loved one with a cancer diagnosis through weekly modules. These were very beneficial to me and not only assisted with how to be the best caregiver for my mother but also maintain my personal well-being.

“I would recommend this program and would advise others not to see it as another source of stress by having to comply but rather information to support you and to give you back some level of control over your cancer journey. The lack of control for me has been the hardest element and doing what I can to influence it has really helped.”

“My health coach was extremely supportive, knowledgeable and encouraged me through the process. He provided me with tips, apps and talked me through eating habits / diet, exercising, sleep patterns, keeping a record of medical notes and my general wellbeing. Even though I had Patrick as my coach during my second round of cancer, it was very beneficial to have someone reinforce what I needed to do, and most importantly, provided that contact from a third party.”
